In response to the outbreak of Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) in Indonesia, a high-risk country located near Australia, the Australian red meat industry has activated its crisis management plan to safeguard the country from this viral disease, which affects cattle and water buffalo. This initiative has led to the formation of a cross-industry taskforce, including representatives from the Red Meat Advisory Council, National Farmers’ Federation, Australian Dairy Farmers, and Meat & Livestock Australia. The taskforce is diligently working on various strategies to prevent the introduction of LSD to Australia, enhance domestic containment, and develop diagnostic tools and vaccines in collaboration with state and federal governments. This proactive approach aims to ensure Australia's continued freedom from LSD and to minimize potential production losses and market disruptions, while maintaining the human food chain's safety and quality.
