An outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) has been confirmed in the Khasan district of Primorye, Russia, by the Primorsky Interregional Directorate of Rosselkhoznadzor. The disease was first detected in wild boar in 2019 and has led to quarantine measures and a significant decrease in wild boar numbers, impacting predators like tigers. Despite the virus not posing a threat to humans, a hunting ban on wild boar in the region has been extended to 2025 due to concerns for the Amur tiger population.
