In 2020, Iran had exported $ 6.5 billion in agricultural products. It is among the top ten producers of over two dozen fruits and vegetables, including saffron, apples, citrus fruit, watermelons and other melons, pomegranates, dates, pistachios, and walnuts. In November, due to excessive pesticide levels, Uzbekistan had rejected several thousand tonnes of Iranian and Pakistani potatoes. Soon after, Russia banned imports of some Iranian agricultural products, including a large shipment of peppers that was rejected because certificates on pesticide-residue levels were lacking.
