Approximately 150,000 metric tons of pigeon peas destined for India are currently stuck at ports in Mozambique due to delays in export permission from customs. The delay has caused the price of pigeon peas in India to increase by nearly 10% in two months, exacerbating food inflation before upcoming elections. Some exporters have managed to obtain export permits, allowing them to ship 50,000 tons of pigeon pea to India, but the situation remains unresolved, leading to concerns of India's food security being compromised.
