The Indian government is introducing a 30% import duty on yellow peas starting from November 1, aiming to limit the flow of imports and halt the decline in domestic grain prices. Shipments with a bill of lading dated up to October 31, 2025, will be exempt from the duty. It is worth noting that the Indian government had previously introduced duty-free imports of yellow peas until March 31, 2026, but farmers' associations demanded restrictions on imports that were causing a drop in local prices. In the 2025 fiscal year, India imported about 6.7 million tons of legumes (mainly from Canada, Australia, and Russia), of which 2.2 million tons were yellow peas. Currently, Ukraine exports peas mainly to Turkey, India, and Italy, but among the suppliers of peas to India, it has dropped from the pre-war third place to the 6th – 7th place.
