The National Institute for Agrarian Innovation (INIA) has installed constant water table lysimeters in research plots in Puno, Peru, as part of the Soil and Water Project. The equipment will be used to analyze the evapotranspiration of quinoa and tarwi crops, as well as the soil's water balance, nitrate levels, salinity, and electro conductivity. The data collected will be used to develop technologies to help small and medium-sized producers improve soil nutritional capacity, optimize irrigation water use, and increase crop yield.
