In 2023, global apple production saw a slight decrease of 0.6% to 82 million tons due to unfavorable weather conditions in China, despite production increases in the EU, US, and Turkey. This also led to a contraction in global apple exports by 2.3% to 7.9 million tons. Italy led the export market, followed by Chile, which experienced a change in exported apple varieties. New Zealand, known for its high-quality apples, exported 308 thousand tons primarily to Asia and Europe. Meanwhile, South Africa saw a 4% growth in apple exports, reaching 495 thousand tons.
