[Korea Agricultural and Fishery Newspaper, Reporter Kang Jae-nam] The Western Agricultural Technology Center of the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Agricultural Technology Institute (Director Kang Byeong-su) urged farmers to disinfect soil and use high-quality seed garlic as the garlic planting season approaches in Jeju. Garlic is a vegetatively propagated crop that reproduces through cloves, and its yield and quality are significantly influenced by the use of high-quality seed garlic. Additionally, pests and diseases that infected the previous year's cultivation site can be transmitted to the next generation, so soil disinfection and selection of seed garlic without disease and damage are necessary. With recent abnormal climate conditions causing winter temperatures to rise, there are concerns about pest and disease damage if early planting occurs without proper soil management, requiring caution.
