(Jeju=Yonhap News) Reporter Go Seong-sik = The Jeju Agricultural Technology Institute announced on the 15th that it will foster a specialized cultivation zone for Jeju Gold Kiwi and strengthen customized technical support to enhance export competitiveness.
The Jeju Agricultural Technology Institute, centered around the Seongsan Ilchulbong Agricultural Cooperative, plans to create a cultivation zone for the new Gold Kiwi variety 'Gamhwang', support cultivation management technology to improve quality, and obtain 'Global GAP' certification, an international standard, to secure export stability and reliability.
In addition, in collaboration with the Halla Gold Farming Corporation, it plans to support cultivation technology, on-site consulting, and quarantine management for export-specialized farms of another Gold Kiwi variety, 'Sweet Gold', to increase international competitiveness.
The export volume of Jeju Gold Kiwi increased by 87.4% from 95 tons in 2021 to 178 tons last year. The area of Gold Kiwi cultivation in the province currently stands at 310 hectares.
Last year, 49 tons (worth 291,000 dollars) of kiwi were exported to Taiwan for the first time.
Jeju Province plans to increase the export volume of Jeju Gold Kiwi to over 400 tons by 2028.
