The Jeonnam Marine and Fisheries Science Institute (Director Kim Chung-nam) announced that, in order to restore coastal fishery resources and improve the income of fishermen, 2 million high-value barley shrimp larvae were released into four main habitats: Wando, Sinan, Yeongguang, and Hampyeong. The barley shrimp, a high-value species among shrimp, is continuously released every year. Classified as a large shrimp, the barley shrimp grows to over 25 cm and is also known as "kkotdaeha" or "odori" depending on the region. With its meaty texture and good taste, and its tender flesh, it is popular as a high-end food ingredient. Due to its characteristics, the barley shrimp does not stray far from the release area and grows there.
