The Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, along with the akimats of the Almaty, Turkestan and Kyzylorda regions, will formulate a strategy to progressively decrease the cultivation area for moisture-loving crops such as rice and cotton, in accordance with a directive from the country's Prime Minister, Askar Mamin. This initiative is part of a larger plan to extend irrigated land by 2.2 million hectares by 2025 and 3 million hectares by 2030, which involves the reconstruction of 120 canals and the construction of nine large reservoirs. Additionally, the government is developing a Roadmap for the digitalization of these infrastructure projects and preparing regional roadmaps for the implementation of water-saving technologies in irrigated areas by 2025.
