An upcoming high-level conference aiming to discuss the future of animal welfare in the EU will be held on December 9, with key EU and non-Community actors in attendance. The European Commission has highlighted its commitment to improving animal welfare, both domestically and internationally, building on nearly five decades of legislation. This commitment includes plans to phase out animal cages by 2023, in response to a European Citizens' Initiative supporting the ban. The conference underscores the EU's efforts to promote sustainability, animal health, and welfare, encouraging a plant-based diet and sustainable farming practices. The European Commission is collaborating with various stakeholders, including the Jane Goodall Institute, to further establish the EU as a leader in animal welfare through its Farm-to-Table strategy.
