The article highlights the significant role of the Kisan Rail in transporting agricultural produce in India, with a total of 5,98,033 tonnes moved in the previous year, predominantly from Maharashtra. The train carries a variety of commodities including fruits and vegetables. The service's routes were developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and state governments. Despite the subsidy from the Ministry of Food Processing Industries for the transportation of fruits and vegetables via Kisan Rail, the operational costs exceed the revenue generated. A total of 98 crores has been disbursed as subsidy up to January 15, and 1,642 Kisan Rails have been operated since their inception in August 2020.
