Finally, after a long wait, Lamb Weston Holdings inaugurated a 40,000 square meter plant in Mar del Plata, where it will process 90,000 tons of potatoes per year to produce frozen pre-fried potatoes, flake puree, and potato starch for the foreign market.
The news was received with mixed feelings by many potato producers. On the one hand, it brings relief that a new player has appeared in the demand for the tuber. But on the other, the delay in the inauguration promoted a commercial catastrophe this year.
The story began in March 2022, when the then Minister of Productive Development, Matías Kulfas, approved the inclusion of the project presented by Lamb Weston within the Investment Promotion Regime for Exports, which allows the company, among other benefits, to dispose of 20% of the foreign currency obtained from exports.
