The Dutch Consumers' Association has identified a issue with the fat content of lean or extra lean ground beef sold in Dutch supermarkets, stating that the fat percentage ranges from 8 to 15 percent, exceeding European regulations and public health standards. Only five out of 62 sampled meat varieties had less than 10 percent fat. The association is calling for tighter regulations and clearer labeling of fat content on packaging to mislead customers about the true fat content of the meat. The supermarket association CBL has responded that it is not within the power of shops to adjust rules and emphasized that the decision lies with politicians.
