Lettuce drives fall in vegetable prices in September

Prices of the most consumed vegetables in the country's main wholesale markets fell in September. Lettuce, potato, onion, carrot, and tomato became cheaper when compared to August values. The largest drop was observed for lettuce, with a 16.01% reduction in the weighted average of quotations, explained by the good supply of leafy vegetables in the markets. This is shown by the 10th Bulletin of the Brazilian Program for the Modernization of the Horticultural Market (Prohort), from the National Supply Company (Conab), released this Tuesday (21). The Conab survey considers the five vegetables (potato, carrot, onion, tomato, and lettuce) and the five fruits (orange, banana, papaya, apple, and watermelon) with the greatest representation in sales in the country's main Ceasas and that are most prominent in the calculation of the official inflation index (IPCA).
