The National Agri-Food Health and Quality Service (Senasa) in Argentina has successfully controlled 900 locust outbreaks across 10 provinces, reviewing over 2,800 sites and detecting 1,096 pest occurrences. Current locust sightings in Catamarca, Córdoba, and La Rioja are under surveillance. A phytosanitary alert was declared in February due to rising locust populations in Argentina, Bolivia, and Paraguay. The National Locust and Lobster Program, operational for over 130 years, focuses on preventing and controlling locust infestations through systematic surveillance and early detection. Effective communication and collaboration between public and private sectors are essential for managing this migratory pest.
