MAPA seizes 1.4 million liters of beverages with evidence of fraud and closes establishment in Minas Gerais, Brazil

A tax action by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa) resulted in the seizure of 1,453,308.20 liters of beverages such as nectars, soft drinks and coconut water in establishments in the state of Minas Gerais. In all, 22 batches of products had evidence of fraud due to the removal of raw material and 143,678 units of coconut water labels with non-conformities. With the amount of fraudulent batches, one of the establishments was closed as a precautionary measure and had its production interrupted until it made the necessary adjustments, including the adoption of an anti-fraud policy, to resume production with guarantees for the quality and authenticity of the products. The analysis of the products, carried out by the Federal Laboratory for Agricultural Defense in Rio Grande do Sul (LFDA-RS), detected the replacement of raw material in samples, possibly by water and sugarcane.
