In 2020, Mexico emerged as the world's leading exporter of fresh asparagus, with over 173,000 tons shipped mainly to the United States, despite accounting for only 1 kilo of per capita consumption within the country. The primary production regions were Sonora, Guanajuato, Baja California, and Baja California Sur, contributing to 95.5% of the total harvest. Additionally, small quantities were exported to Spain, Japan, the UK, Belize, Panama, Hong Kong, the UAE, El Salvador, and Malaysia, with Germany, France, and Switzerland showing potential for future import markets.
