Within the framework of the National Alpaca Day, the Minister of Agrarian Development and Irrigation, Angel Manero Campos, announced the creation of the National Council of South American Camelids, with the aim of strengthening the production, commercialization, and quality of this productive chain. "The alpaca fiber industry is growing and today it is already being exported for more than 200 million dollars, benefiting the producers. As a ministry, we have regained the pace of work regarding alpacas and other camelids; we have agreed to form a National Technical Commission, not only for alpacas, but for South American camelids as well. There are issues of genetic improvement that we are also coordinating. There are issues of financing, of commercial promotion," indicated the head of Midagri.
