The Egyptian Commercial Office in Ottawa has successfully negotiated with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency to lift a ban on fresh Egyptian strawberry exports to Canada. This approval comes with specific conditions, including the requirement for Canadian importers to secure an import permit and for the strawberries to be subjected to agricultural quarantine in Egypt, ensuring they are pest-free. The strawberries must also be commercially produced and come with a phytosanitary certificate issued 14 days before export. A trial period will see all shipments inspected upon arrival in Canada, with the possibility of easing restrictions further once the trial demonstrates consistent compliance with Canada's phytosanitary standards.
