(Seoul=Yonhap News) Reporter Jeon Jae-hoon = The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced on the 3rd that it has strengthened the design standards for horticultural crop greenhouses and ginseng shading facilities to withstand heavy snow and strong winds.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs revised the "Regulations on Design Standards and Registration of Disaster-Resistant Specifications for Horticultural and Special Crop Facilities (Disaster-Resistant Standards Notice)" last month 31st to prevent damage to horticultural and special crop facilities.
The revised standards apply to 22 regions, including Jindo, Seongsan, Gwacheon, Gwangmyeong, Gunpo, Bonghwa, Suncheon, and Gurye.
After large-scale damage occurred in central regions due to heavy snow and strong winds in November last year, the need to raise the design standards for horticultural and ginseng facilities was raised.
In response, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs established disaster-resistant design standards and reflected them in the notice.
These standards are not mandatory, but are used as a requirement for policy fund support related to greenhouse installation.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs has been implementing the disaster-resistant standards notice since 2007 to reduce damage from heavy snow and strong winds.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, as of 2023, 44% of facility vegetables in plastic greenhouses have been converted to disaster-resistant facilities.
