The Peruvian Ministry of Production has implemented a reproductive ban on hake (Merluccius gayi peruanus) in the northern part of its maritime domain, effective from September 2, 2021. This decision, recommended by the Peruvian Sea Institute (Imarpe), aims to ensure the sustainability of the hake population. The ban's duration will be determined by Imarpe. During this period, the processing, marketing, transportation, and storage of hake from the prohibited area are permitted only if the fish was caught before the ban. The Ministry will monitor the situation through the Satellite Tracking System for Fishing Vessels (Sisesat), alongside other inspection methods. This resolution also outlines regulations for exploratory fishing of hake with valid permits in a specific area, extending previous guidelines. The resolution was approved by Yván Quispe, the minister of Production.
