As of January 2023, 97.88% of Malaysia's total oil palm planted areas, covering 5.5 million hectares, have been certified under the Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) standard, according to Deputy Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Siti Aminah Aching. She clarified that the MSPO Trace application data, which indicated 113.99% MSPO certification, had an inaccuracy. The government is actively supporting smallholders to reduce planting costs and is considering providing subsidies or incentives to offset their increasing costs.
