The Georgian Hazelnut Growers Association (GHGA) anticipates a significant improvement in Georgia's hazelnut harvest for 2023, following a poor 2022 season that resulted in less than 40,000 tons. With proper cultivation practices and an estimated 70,000 hectares dedicated to hazelnut cultivation, the country is capable of yielding over 100,000 tons. The GHGA plans to combat pests like the marble bug through various measures, including the distribution of pheromone traps. Farmers are also encouraged to ensure quality and properly dry and store their hazelnuts to improve income. A partnership with Liberty Bank allows farmers to use a simplified loan procedure by providing a drying and storage certificate.
