Namibia has recommenced imports of live poultry and birds from South Africa, following a ban imposed due to an outbreak of bird flu in September 2023. The country, which consumes approximately 2,500 metric tons of chicken per month, typically imports most of its chicken from South Africa. Additionally, Namibia has halted imports of live poultry and raw poultry products from Brazil's Rio Grande do Sul state due to Newcastle avian disease. Any shipments from this state packed after the suspension date will be returned or destroyed at the importer's cost.
