The European Commission has increased the mandatory additional examination of Egyptian orange exports from 20% to 30% due to a rise in rejections from EU countries. This decision is part of a larger issue where weather changes have impacted the size and quality of citrus fruits, leading to a 25% decrease in total orange exports. Despite these challenges, Egypt remains the world's leading exporter of citrus fruits, having shipped over 1.8 million tons in 2021. The Ministry of Agriculture is working to maintain this position by opening new markets and enhancing control over exporting companies to meet international quality standards.
