The National Onion Producers, Processors, and Marketers Association of Nigeria (NOPPMAN) has declared a state of emergency in the onion industry due to challenges such as rising costs of onion seedlings, post-harvest losses, inflation, and the impact of climate change. The association is calling on all stakeholders, including the government, financial institutions, and agricultural organizations, to collaborate and find solutions. NOPPMAN is seeking subsidies for onion seedlings and essential farming inputs, measures to address post-harvest losses, and access to low-interest loans and financial support for its members.
