Since 2020, African swine fever (ASF) outbreaks have occurred in seven locations in Gangwon Province, South Korea, with the first outbreak reported on a pig farm in October 2020. The outbreak has led to the slaughter and burial of 9,192 pigs. The number of ASF-infected wild boars in Gangwon Province has reached 995, spreading the virus to 13 out of 18 cities and counties. In response, quarantine authorities have installed fences and reduced the wild boar population through hunting. They plan to catch 10,000 wild boars from the winter season to March 2022 and propose additional fences around pig farms.
