Non-farmers will now be able to build single-family homes under 1,000 square meters in agricultural and forestry areas. A protected village zone will be established to limit the location of factories and large livestock facilities in rural areas. The government approved an amendment to the "Land Planning and Utilization Act" at a cabinet meeting on June 24. The areas where single-family home construction is now permitted are agricultural and forestry regions (49,550 square kilometers), excluding conservation forest areas (39,755 square kilometers) and agricultural promotion zones (7,880 square kilometers), which amounts to 573 square kilometers. It is estimated that approximately 1.4 million lots, representing 1.2% of the total agricultural and forestry areas, will be eligible.
