Egypt is the world's fourth-largest tomato producer, with an annual output of approximately 11 million tons across 520 thousand acres, spread across nine governorates. To capitalize on this, the country could potentially export 4 million tons, generating up to $16 billion if the European Union's stringent standards for chemical residues are met. Currently, Egypt's tomato exports rank ninth, with a total of 37,137 tons out of 6.4 million tons of agricultural products from January 2024 to September 18. The country has a unique advantage in organic tomato exports due to its year-round production, competing with Morocco in this market.
