In domestic distribution, it is a species with very limited distribution but of extremely high economic value, used as a raw material for pearl production. Characteristics include being found in rocky areas around 20m deep, a medium-sized species with shell length and width of around 7cm, with a shell shaped like a slanted square and a rounded ventral surface. The hinge is offset towards the front end and not protruding. Similar to pearl oysters, but with an almost flat right shell and relatively small wings at the front. The shell surface has black-purple radial stripes and is covered with rough, layered scale-like protrusions. The inner surface of the shell is deeply concave and has strong pearl luster.
