Peach: fruit fly demands preventive measures in the field

The economic report released this Thursday (9) by Emater/RS-Ascar points to progress in activities related to peach cultivation in the state. In the administrative region of Pelotas, the thinning of fruits is in its final stages, while the second nitrogen fertilization is taking place. The population of fruit flies is growing, which has led producers to adopt preventive measures, such as the use of toxic baits and, in some cases, insecticides. In the region of Caxias do Sul, the harvest of the PS do Cedo, BRS Kampai, and Tropic Prince varieties has begun. The fruits present medium caliber, greenish coloration, and acidity, a reflection of the low exposure to the sun during growth. "The climatic conditions directly impacted the development and appearance of the fruits harvested at the beginning of the season," the bulletin indicates.
