In the 2023/2024 campaign, Peru experienced a significant 22.38% decrease in fresh blueberry exports, totaling 222 thousand tons, down from 286 thousand tons the previous year, due to climatic challenges such as Cyclone Yaku and an unusually hot winter. These adverse conditions particularly affected the key blueberry-producing regions of Piura, Lambayeque, and La Libertad. Despite this downturn, Peru remains the global leader in blueberry exports, a position it has solidified over previous campaigns. Fernando Cillóniz Benavides, president of Inform@cción, is optimistic about a rebound in the 2024/2025 campaign, attributing potential growth to an expected normalization of the climate. Furthermore, January 2024 saw a significant surge in blueberry export revenue for Peru, reaching US$212 million, nearly three times the amount from January 2023, indicating a strong recovery and continued dominance in the global market.
