Spanish Minister, Luis Planas, will challenge the European Commission's proposed cuts in fishing catches and days at sea for 2022, seeking alternative measures to ensure the fleet's viability. The EC's proposals include a 7.5% reduction for the Mediterranean fleet, leading to a 25% cut in three years, and an 18.5% reduction in the southern hake quota, which Spain deems unaffordable. Planas will also plead for a review of proposed quotas for Atlantic species like southern hake and sole, and address the rise in production costs that threatens profitability.
