The National Fisheries Office in Morocco has reported a 13% decrease in coastal and artisanal fishing landings at Mediterranean ports in the first seven months of 2024, totaling 9,474 tonnes. Despite the drop in weight, the total value of these landings has increased by 9% to 454.15 million dirhams, largely due to a 21% rise in cephalopod landings and a 6% increase in crustacean revenues, which offset the decreases in pelagic and white fish landings. There was also a notable 8691% increase in seaweed landings, but shellfish landings fell dramatically to zero. At a national level, marketed products from coastal and artisanal fisheries increased by 4% to 625,349 tonnes, with a 7% increase in value to over 6.28 billion dirhams.
