The Argentine poultry sector managed to resume its exports to China last May, primarily composed of highly sought-after chicken feet, one of the main slaughterhouse by-products traditionally in high demand by the Asian market, but whose shipments were interrupted after the Chinese closure following the appearance of avian flu in February 2023. Carlos Sinesi, manager of the Poultry Processing Companies Center (Cepa), reported that the sector was able to resume its shipments in May, with around 2,000 tons of products to China. In the second half of the year, they expect to triple that volume to round out about 6,000 tons per month. This development is highly relevant for the poultry chain, which urgently needs to improve its export profile to channel a production of 2.5 million annual tons, which is no longer easy to place in a saturated domestic market with low purchasing power.
