The Grain Marketing Board (GMB) of Zimbabwe has increased the producer prices for maize, traditional summer grains, soyabeans, and sunflower seed by 33 percent, raising the price for maize and traditional grains to $100,000 plus $90 a tonne, soyabeans to $228,666 and $90 per tonne, and sunflower seed to $274,392 and $90 per tonne. The GMB is encouraging farmers to deliver their harvests immediately, and the Zimbabwe Commercial Farmers Union and the Zimbabwe Indigenous Women Farmers Association Trust have applauded the price increase, with the UIWFA Trust suggesting a 50:50 local currency and foreign currency payment for maize. The price increase is in response to rising input costs, global supply chain disruptions, and export bans, as the government aims to produce significant amounts of maize, sorghum, soyabeans, and sunflower.
