[Livestock and Fisheries News=Reporter Hong Jeong-min] The Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency (hereinafter referred to as the Agency) announced on the 28th that it has jointly developed and domestically commercialized the first gene discrimination diagnostic technology with Median Diagnostics Inc. for rapid and precise diagnosis in preparation for the domestic influx of malignant livestock infectious diseases from abroad, namely foot-and-mouth disease. According to the Agency, foot-and-mouth disease is an acute viral livestock infectious disease that occurs in goats, sheep, etc. When infected, it shows symptoms such as high fever, runny nose, eye discharge, drooling (stomatitis), coughing (pneumonia), and diarrhea (gastroenteritis), and most of them die. Although it has not yet occurred domestically, it is occurring in Asian regions such as Mongolia, raising concerns about its domestic influx.
