Queen Letizia of Spain has lamented that hunger is still "an open wound" and a "weapon of war" in many parts of the world, while Pope Leo XIV has spoken of "a collective failure," at the events for the World Food Day at the Rome headquarters of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). "You will excuse me if I list here some reasons for the despair that both FAO and other United Nations agencies point out: hunger is today a weapon of war in many places and an open wound," she said in her speech. The Queen, since 2015 a special ambassador for Nutrition of this specialized agency of the United Nations which is celebrating 80 years of history, attended the assembly that is held every October 16 for the Food Day.
