South Africa is projected to produce a record rapeseed crop of 220,000 tonnes in the 2023-24 marketing year, representing a 5% increase from the previous year. This growth is attributed to the expansion of cultivated areas and improved crop varieties, as well as the high demand for vegetable oil extraction. As a result, South Africa has started exporting rapeseed, with a record 50,000 tonnes expected to be shipped this year, mainly to Germany and Belgium. However, rapeseed production still accounts for only 6% of the country's total oilseed production, with soybeans and sunflower seeds dominating at 73% and 20% respectively.
