EU countries are expected to increase rapeseed imports in the first half of this year due to a significant reduction in domestic supply and rising prices. Stocks of rapeseed in the EU have decreased to 8.7 million tons from 9.1 million tons a year earlier and 10.7 million tons in January 2019, due to high margins of oilseed processing. Record rapeseed imports in the EU are predicted to reach 6.55 million tons in 2020/21 MY, with Australia and Canada being the main suppliers. However, Canadian canola supplies to the EU may be half of last year's due to a reduction in supply. The decrease in the gross harvest of rapeseed in the EU is expected to increase dependence on imported products and may encourage European importers to seek new suppliers, with an increase in purchases of oilseeds from Uruguay.
