The 2024 salmon fishing season in Russia has seen significant decline, leading to a noticeable increase in wholesale salmon prices. According to the Federal State Unitary Enterprise "National Fish Resources", the price for pink salmon has doubled from the previous year, reaching 285 rubles per kg. Chum and sockeye salmon prices have also surged, with chum salmon now costing 420 rubles and sockeye salmon 700 rubles per kg. The Federal Agency for Fisheries estimates that the salmon catch this year has decreased to 215.4 thousand tons from 272 thousand tons in 2022.
