Rice planting in Rio Grande do Sul has reached 57.44% of the projected area as of October 23, according to the Rio Grande do Sul Rice Institute (IRGA). This represents 528,518 hectares planted, within a projection of 920,081 hectares for the 2025/26 crop—a number 5.17% lower than the area cultivated in the previous season. The South Zone remains at the forefront and is close to completing planting, with 92.84% of the area already sown, equivalent to 145,342 hectares. Next, the Campanha region has 78,034 hectares (57.53%), while the Inland Coastal Plain has 83,642 hectares (59.54%) and the Outer Coastal Plain has 35,742 hectares (37.67%). The Border, one of the main cereal-producing regions in the state, also shows progress with 157,744 hectares planted, reaching 58.03% of the target.
