The Rural Development Administration's National Academy of Agricultural Sciences has opened a bee quarantine breeding ground, the first of its kind in 2018, to improve national competitiveness and increase beekeeper income. The facility, spread over 36,000 ㎡ and costing 6 billion won, will be used for stable breed development and distribution. The National Academy of Agricultural Sciences will conduct research for efficient breeding, distribution, and standardization of honeybee varieties, with a focus on disease resistance and quality certification. The goal is to provide high-quality varieties and identification technology to prevent the distribution of bad bees, securing a clean breeding space and establishing a research department specializing in breeding and beekeeping.
