The Russian authorities have decided against extending the zero duty on egg imports from friendly countries, which is set to expire in July, as the country's egg production is on the rise and poultry farms have recovered from bird flu outbreaks. The Ministry of Agriculture has fined domestic producers for price collusion and voluntary retail chains have kept markups low, leading to a stabilization in egg prices and production. In the first quarter of this year, Russia produced 10.8 billion eggs, a two percent decrease from the same period last year due to poultry farm reconstructions, and imported 400 million eggs over the first five months, mainly from Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Belarus.
