Mexico is preparing for the 2022-2023 shrimp capture season, with a focus on sustainable management and responsible use of the crustacean, a crucial product for the country's economy and exports. The National Institute of Fisheries and Aquaculture (Inapesca) is leading efforts to conserve and develop shrimp fishing, using scientific research to determine the health of shrimp populations in various waterways. The institute has supported the responsible use of bans and is working with producers to bring high-quality shrimp to Mexican families. The shrimp fishing industry is significant, with the potential to contribute between 35,000 and 45,000 tons and between 17,000 and 19,000 tons of shrimp from the Pacific and the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea, respectively.
