The Forestry and Village Relations Department (ORKÖY) in Karabük, Turkey, has initiated a project to cultivate saffron, the world's most expensive spice, in the Safranbolu district, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The project, costing 1.9 million liras, involves planting saffron on a 10-decare area and providing financial support to 10 local producers. In 2024, ORKÖY plans to contribute 5.58 million liras to 21 families to support saffron cultivation and increase the economic stability of forest villagers. The project was launched with the planting of saffron bulbs in Yukarıçiftlik village.
