The agency estimates total imports will be 3.1 million tonnes, down from 3.402 million tonnes in 2024-25, with Russia, Brazil, Uruguay, and Bulgaria listed as top suppliers. Domestic wheat production is expected to reach 1.1 million tonnes. The Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture has incentivized this production with a procurement price of 1,750 SAR ($467) per tonne. “This pricing strategy aims to shift the farmers focus away from water intensive alfalfa hay, which has historically offered higher profitability,” the FAS said.
