The World Apple and Pear Association (WAPA) has raised concerns over the harvest of apples in Europe due to several challenges. These include a sharp increase in electricity prices, unfavorable weather conditions that have reduced the crop size and yield, and a shortage of labor. The weather conditions in August caused the fruits to be smaller and more likely to be processed. WAPA has revised its estimate of the apple harvest down to 12 million tons, with a shortfall of 90,000 tons in mid-September, primarily due to France, Italy, and Spain lowering their forecasts.
